“Mom, do you know what a hurricane is?” Squish asked this afternoon as we stood in the doorway of our building to see how our street was faring.
“It’s a lot of wind and a lot of rain,” I said.
“Nope. It’s a kind of a storm,” he said.
Oh. Of course. Why didn’t I think of that?
We’ve been listening to the wind pick up throughout the day, and checking news reports, Facebook, Twitter, and texts to see how friends and neighbors are doing.
We’ve also played games; made granola, bread, and yogurt; stacked books on the couch; dumped toys all over the floor; watched the Thomas the Train Halloween special; and enjoyed ice cream sundaes.
But there is a tree down in our neighbor’s backyard and our lights are flickering.
The storm just made landfall, so things could just be getting interesting.
Good luck, everyone. Stay safe. Stay dry. Stay lit. And I hope we do, too.
