“Oh, she’s so small!” the other mother in the nursing room at church last week said as I pulled my baby out from under the nursing cover. Her own baby is only a few weeks older than mine, but weighed a pound more at birth. I guess compared to her baby, mine did look small.
But don’t tell that to the second mother who came into the nursing room after the first mother left. “Look at that big baby!” she said when she saw my little girl. “She’s so tall! She’s almost as big as my baby.”
Her baby is 13 months old, and while she is probably very light and kind of skinny, she’s about as tall as my 15-month-old niece. That did not deter the mother from observing how huge my baby was for a couple of minutes while I changed her diaper.
It’s all a matter of perspective.
