One of the things I love about running is that, for me, it is as much fun as a group activity as it is as a solitary one. I’ll gladly go for a run by myself when I have the chance, but I welcome company and really enjoy the conversations I have and friendships I have made while running. Micah and I trained for our first marathon with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training and the Saturday group runs with Katrina and Ana and Kit and Jen are some of my favorite memories of Hawaii. Micah is, of course, still my prime running partner and I rarely go out without the menchildren (although their conversation leaves something to be desired at this point), but lately I’ve added Shiloh and Christy as occasional partners, which makes me happy. It is fun to share a love of running with a group of people, but it is even more fun to actually run together.
In an effort to try to capture the magic of the group run and share the fun we had two weeks ago on our run to the beach (and at the beach afterward), we have organized a run down to the beach. I am fully aware that pretty much everybody who reads this blog and lives close enough to participate received an invitation to join us a few weeks ago, but in case we missed anyone, here is your invitation. We’re meeting at the Parkside Ave/Ocean Ave entrance to Prospect Park at 7:30 tomorrow morning and following this route to the beach. It’s a bit less than 10 miles, so we should be to the beach around 9:00 where we can ice our legs in the Atlantic and sun ourselves on the sand. Good times will be had by all, I’m sure.
